12.1 Plan Procurement Management

Process Definition
Planning procurement management involves determining the method of procurement as well as potential vendors. The plan documents the procurement decisions and methods determined by the project team.

Process Assessment
One of the key takeaways of this process is it will help determine is outside resourcing is required. If it is determined so, then the project team will be able to evaluate the specifics of what will be required of the outside support.

(Inputs) Activity Resource Requirements
Activity resource requirements identifies resource type and quantity as well as the basis for estimating costs. This will give insight to the procurement needs for personnel, equipment, etc. This example is from a group project in PMGT 501 Fundamentals of Project Management, written by Jeremy Curbey, Jay Kinser, and Charles Sutherland.

(Tools & Techniques) Make or Buy Analysis
A make-or-buy analysis is a great tool to determine if the required resource can be made in house or if it needs to be outsourced. The example is an excerpt from a group project in PGMT 612 Leading Projects Across Cultural, Corporate, and International Boundaries, that was written by Jeremy Curbey, Khoi ChuChe, Corey Cowley, Reese Darlington, and Domingo Tuckler.

(Outputs) Procurement Statement of Work
The procurement statement of work defines the scope related to the contracts required. It will allow potential vendors to determine if they are capable of meeting the procurement requirements. The example is from PMGT 614 Planning, Directing, and Controlling Projects, WBS 1.9 Write a Procurement Statement of Work.
